Understanding Post-War Japanese Asian Tourism through Travel Guidebooks

This course explores how post-war Japanese people viewed regions such as mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea through travel guidebooks of the time. It offers a unique historical perspective by interpreting the content of these guidebooks to understand the consciousness of the era and local customs. Students will receive copies of old guidebooks and have the opportunity to handle actual books.
