Due to the difficulty in gathering historical materials, many aspects of her pre‒war concert activities remain unclear in previous research. Yanagi’s concert tours in Korea spanned eight occasions between 1920 and 1934, yet details concerning three of these tours (1925, 1932, 1934) and her tour of Taiwan (1939) have remained obscure. This paper utilises Korean and Taiwanese newspaper articles alongside concert programmes held by theArchives of Modern Japanese Music to clarify the actual nature of Yanagi Kaneko’s musical tours of Korea andTaiwan, specifically identifying which composers’ which works were performed. The findings reveal a fundamental combination of opera arias and German lieder, alongside discernible shiftsover time. Soprano opera arias, included in the early tours, drastically decreased from the fourth tour onwards. It is understood that as the alto’s original repertoire became more substantial, the need to rely on soprano arias diminished. Conversely, Japanese songs gradually increased, beginning with the fifth tour (1927). This anticipates the trend where Yanagi Kaneko later centred her activities on Japanese songs. Among Yanagi Kaneko’s repertoire, the composition‘Swallow’ of Brunnen, whose true origin had been unknown, was revealed to have been composed under a pseudonym by Fukui Naoaki.
